Many people these days have a crush on the musical instrument hang drum in the idiophone genre by Sabina Scharer and Felix Rohner in PANArt Hangbau AG Company in Bern, Switzerland. This musical instrument is created after years of research on musical instruments such as steelpan. This instrument is made of two half-shells of nitrided and deep drawn steel sheet joined together at the rim. There is a hallow space inside this musical instrument and a distinct UFO shape. The top side of this musical instrument is known as Ding. This side has an ideal centre note that is hammered into hang instrument. There is totally eight or seven tone fields perfectly hammered around the centre of hang drum instrument.
The bottom of hang drum is called as Gu. This plain surface has a rolled hole in the center and a tuned note. This tuned note can be created with the struck rim. Even though the hang uses some physical principles of Steelpan, this musical instrument is different in terms of how it acts as a Helmholtz resonator. Inventors of the hang continuously upgrade various aspects of this musical instrument on a regular basis. Players of the hang, musical instrument have to place it on their lap and use their hands and fingers to play it instead of mallets. The overtone-rich sound from this musical instrument pleases all listeners who fall in love with warm and soft music rather than bright sound from the steelpan with the mallet. Read More →
